Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is a sophisticated non-destructive testing (NDT) method that utilizes beams of sound waves with short wavelengths and high frequencies to assess the integrity of materials. During UT, pulses of ultrasound are transmitted from a probe into the material being inspected and are then detected by the same or other probes. In UT, an oscilloscope display with a time base is used to visualize the time it takes for an ultrasonic pulse to travel to a reflector within the material. The height of the reflected pulse is directly related to the size of the flaw detected. However, interpreting UT results requires skill and expertise due to the complex relationship between flaw size, distance, and reflectivity.
